Interviu: Vangelis la Al Jazeera

Coincidenta. Scriam despre concertul KSiA la Bucuresti acum cateva zile, si am ajuns la Vangelis. Incercam sa inteleg, in urma unei mini-dezbateri de pe fb despre ce e muzica electronica, de ce cred unii ca ea se opreste la Kraftwerk, Jarre, Tangerine Dream, si am ajuns la Vangelis. Citeam despre muzica ambient incercand sa fac o legatura cu spiritualitatea tip new age gen Kitaro si... am ajuns la Vangelis. Recunosc ca desi e un artist gigantic cu o productie gigantica de 50 de albume, am incetat sa urmaresc evolutia lui de prin '80, dupa colaborarea cu Jan Anderson, mai ales dintr-o eroare de apreciere/depreciere (succes comercial = dilutie/coborarea spre cel mai mic numitor comun muzical pentru apel la un public foarte general/autopastisa/etc). Eroare. Am citit biografia lui de pe Wikipedia si am fost din nou frapat de legenda urbana care circula despre el (si care e confirmata) - anume ca nu are nici un studii muzicale. Mai mult decat atat am fost atins de credo-ul lui (care se inrudeste cu al lui Kitaro) ca el e un fel de "transmitator", un "vas" pentru o muzica care se face in afara lui, pe care el o canalizeaza si o considera un instrument de vindecare a lumii. Intr-adevar, generatia aceea de compozitori avea o spiritualitate declarata legata de muzica; au ceva de founding fathers in lumina unei teorii care interpreteaza existenta pe Pamant drept o incarnare pentru a oferi asistenta in dobandirea adevarului cu A mare. (Si e adevarat ca n-as fi putut face asocierea asta scriind despre, sa zicem, Aphex Twin, sau The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, ca sa numesc a doua mare generatie de founding fathers pentru IDM/clubbing electronica). Vangelis, in ciuda succesului urias, a fost foarte retinut cu interviurile, foarte rezervat in a vorbi despre viata personala. Dupa douazeci si ceva de ani de tacere, el vorbeste in acest interviu despre rolul muzicii, despre industria muzicala, raportul dintre succes si libertate, the beauty of music vs the chaos of the world, si alte lucruri cel putin interesante, daca nu chiar marcante.

Coldcut - 'Journeys By DJ" - mama tuturor mixtape/urilor

Am gasit o postare nefinalizata de anul trecut, de cand Ninja Tune a implinit 20 de ani de existenta, eveniment pe care l-au marketat inteligent oferind timp de 20 de saptamani material rar (inregistrari, mixuri, trackuri) celor care se inregistrau pe site. Mixtapeul de mai sus e unul dintre acestea. M-am gandit sa finalizez postarea si sa dau drumul inregistrarii cu Coldcut, care suna cred destul de fresh, cat de fresh poate fi ceva din '90. Dar sa zicem ca e o piesa istorica (click pe share pentru download). Citez mai jos din comentariul Ninja Tune.

The JDJ mix cemented Coldcut's reputation as dance's broadest minds and deftest mixers, and planted a seed that is flowering in the work of every DJ today, fifteen years down the line.

This version of the mix is described by Jon More as follows:
"This version was done for the re-issue in 2002. It grew out of the original, but was re-balanced and re-jigged with extra content, and in fact has different tracks in if you listen very closely. I'd call it a reinterpretation of the first. We're happy to give this away on our twentieth anniversary, as it was an important mix for us that marked a pivotal moment of our career so far. E claro ca party-urile de miez de saptamana sint pentru o mana de alesi, adica toti cei care lucreaza in schimbul doi, 12 cu 24 sau au pile la sef ca sa isi ia liber a doua zi. Si ca pot iesi exceptional de absolut de bine sau pot iesi absolut imediat din cap. Un party din asta mi-a intrat bine de tot in memoriile afective anul trecut, s-a intamplat tot la Control si a fost organizat tot de Bogman, un om in jurul caruia e un good vibe care se intimpla sa produca efecte din astea. Lucrurile stau si mai bine cand din boxe iese si ceva sunet disco/acid/psychedellic/proto-house, cum se poate asculta din mixul atasat. 

Asadar, questa sera Bogman & trupa scoate barca in larg din nou ca sa se lupte cu furtuna, si la cererea echipajului continua in stile italiano cu Fabrizio Mammarella - pionier al spatiului si erou al sunetului. 

Fabrizio Mammarella e un producator si dj italian care locuieste intr-un teritoriu propriu situat intre electronic disco, dub si psihedelic proto-house. Are productii solo, remixuri si colaborari (cu Kotey, The Emperor Machine, Chaz, Jankel) pentru diferite labeluri ca DFA , Bear Funk, Tiny Sticks, Super Soul, Brontosaurus, Rollerboys ca sa numim doar cateva. In prezent se ocupa cu diferite proiecte: Clap Rules, Telespazio, Filiberto Marmelade si scoate din cand in cand material cu Rodion. 

Good times ahead.

To Watch: Michal Jackaszek - Dare Glare

"Dare Gale" video is based on super 8 shootings made by Michal Jacaszek and Pedro Maia at Porto and results from the work in the dark room using analogue means of light manipulation of the celluloid and superposition film. The super 8 footage and its manipulation of the film is the starting point of a visual exploration resulting from the interplay of vibrant patterns and the effect of light on the objects.
The manipulation transforms the viewing of the the video into a subjective experience, "the eye of the beholder", and the analogue manipulation leads to imperfections and unexpected results. It starts from the premise of conciliating sensations, uniqueness and unpredictability that begins as an organic entity which can be thus altered by new means. (via Ghostly International)
